Shadow the Wonder Pup
Shadow is our baby. We adopted her from Animal Haven on February 24th, 1999 and she was approximately a year old. She has been spoiled rotten ever since, though she will tell you she's the most abused dog on the planet. She has tons of toys, dozens of beds, unlimited food, numerous treats, and the run of the house. Despite that, she'll look at you with those sad puppy eyes and plead abuse every time.
She knows a ton of tricks, including: sit, lay, down (she lowers her head to put her chin on the ground), shake, beg, speak, gimme a kiss, and roll over, though she has not mastered the concept of 'stay'. She knows most of her toys by name (Mr. Hedgehog, Flamingo, Mr. Snake, Bungee Bone, and Jingle Ball, to name but a few of the tons of toys she has). She certainly knows how to manipulate us, too!
She goes for a walk every day, unless it's storming. She's terrified of storms - she cowers and shakes something awful, and tries to (for whatever reason) climb UP on things, as if height will make her safe. In our old apartment she was particularly fond of hopping onto the toilet and then into the sink in the downstairs bathroom. In this house she seems to content herself with laying in the bathtub.
Having a dog has also expanded both my cooking and crafting repertoire. It's been claimed that I am more likely to bake home-made dog biscuits than I am to make dinner, but that's a lie. The part about me being more likely to make dog toys (or, certainly, perform dog toy surgery) than to finish the dining room curtains... well, that is true.
