I discovered bellydance about a year (maybe a little more) ago, and while I know I will probably never be particularly good at it (that would require practice, work, and dedication!) it is a good form of exercise and it's fun. Plus, I've met a lot of wonderful people.

My two teachers, Su Ali and Zaina Ali, are kind and wonderful and never tell me I suck. Even when I do. (though for the record, the giant bellydancing bunny was sheer brilliance)

Despite my not-goodness, I have done a few performances and can handle it as long as I stick to more fun, light-hearted and/or comedy routines. I'm not one for 'sensual' bellydance, because I don't have the body for it. I'm more of a gypsy-style dancer, with full skirts and everything well-covered. If I could step away from the ice cream (and doughnuts and chips and cookies and...) for awhile, maybe I could change that, but I seriously doubt that will happen anytime soon.

Mostly, I admit, it's the craft potential of bellydance that really keeps me hooked. The costumes, the accessories, the sheer number of things you can make just leaves me drooling. You know I love a new project, and this is it for now. I haven't done anything spectacular to date, but I have a lot of good ideas and I think I can pull them off. I just need the time (and an organized craft room) to do them!

I also very much enjoy taking pictures of other (much more photogenic) dancers. Below I have a select few photos I've taken at the two major events I've attended - these are the ones I posted to Facebook, and I'm sorry I haven't captioned and labeled them here, I just let the software slap together some pages because I really need to get this website updated soon!
