The House on Haskins we almost bought

This was a house we put an offer on, and got up to the inspection - where we found out there was a layer of wood shingles under the asphalt ones. Insurance companies tend to have a problem with this. We ended up (obviously) not buying this house, and in the long run I think I'm much happier. We paid about the same for the house we ended up with, and it's a lot larger. Though, yes, it has its problems as well (what house doesn't?).

The biggest problem I had with this house was also its strongest selling point - the location. It was in the neighborhood we wanted, close to our apartment. But that meant it, too, was very close to the highway. And while you do get used to the noise, it's far nicer not to have it. And the backyard faced a major road. Even though there was a privacy fence and some trees, I would have worried about letting the dog out - if she got through the fence, she'd likely get run over!

So I'm glad we didn't get it, even though it means a longer commute. I have a bunch of pictures I took, though, and I had to do something with them, so... yeah. Here you go, some pictures of the house we didn't buy (click on the areas of the floorplan to see the pictures).

Floorplan (not to scale!):

Also something I've realized I would have hated about this house - lugging the groceries up from the garage! It's so much nicer to walk 10 steps from the garage to the kitchen. Definitely something that is going on the 'future house requirements' list if we ever move again...
